The book was written by a Fellow in the Academy of Orton Gillingham and is based on Orton Gillingham instruction of basic syllable labels including open, closed, magic e, r-controlled, and vowel teams.

Included in this book is a fun story of the c vs k rule as well as a teacher's glossary of syllable labels. Orton Gillingham is the gold standard approach for teaching struggling readers, specifically children with dyslexia, to read and spell.

This story came to be through my experiences teaching at The Schenck School in Atlanta, GA, an Orton-Gillingham Academy Accredited School for students with dyslexia.

The sounds and animals portion was inspired by a story told by a veteran preschool teacher during my initial Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training class led by my mentor, Rosalie Davis.

This course is a basic refresher of addition, subtraction, multiplication, + division at the representational level. Previous coursework is not a pre-requisite, but if you’ve attended a 2-day class, the first chunk will be review with more streamlined suggestions for classroom and tutorial application.
